Acupuncture is a therapy that has been in existence for over 2000 years originating from China. Acupuncture aims to promote good health by maintaining homeostasis within the body by balancing and harmonising the flow of Qi. It differs from Western Allopathic medicine by not just treating the physical ailments but also how the body can be affected emotionally.
Acupuncture works with the body’s energy which is known as ‘Qi’ or ‘Chi’. Qi is said to flow through the body via ‘channels’, ‘pathways’ or ‘meridians’. After a full medical history, an acupuncturist will check the balance of Qi by taking the pulse and looking at the tongue. If there is a disturbance or disruption in the flow of Qi then it can indicate illness. Points selected along the channels are tailor-made for the individual and fine needles are inserted to redistribute and create a harmonious flow of Qi. By creating homeostasis within the body acupuncture promotes good health.
Acupuncture can be used to treat and help a variety of common ailments. To be sure that Acupuncture is suitable for you please check the British Acupuncture Council’s website or call me on 07966 538828 to discuss treatment.
